Mark’s missional items are thought provoking although I’m having trouble getting a true split between attractional and missional based on these items. For instance, an attractional church whose goal is to bring people in to hear the Gospel can have an outward focus with a servant’s attitude. An attractional church’s weekend services tend to be about making the Gospel accessible for those who come (outward focus), and it can be much work to take care of many guests who probably won’t be returning the favor next month or next year (servant). Likewise, attractional churches can work on using languages and customs of the community so that people feel comfortable and not turned off by “church talk.” Part of my problem may be that I’m confusing these two poles (definitions/meant to be different) with actual church experiences (blends of the two). I look forward to other responses. Interesting topic.
